      Project Name:

Building Bridges 2.0 – basketball for people with intellectual disabilities

Project Description:

Disability inclusion is about understanding the relationship between how people function and their involvement in society, and ensuring that everyone has the same opportunities to participate in every aspect of life, within their abilities and desires.
abilităților și dorințelor lor.

Inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in sports programs is an effective way to improve their health and the health of society as a whole. Inclusion is more than just providing a seat at the table for a person with intellectual disabilities, it means including them in the planning, implementation and decision-making process, as well as ensuring that organizations have both procedures and practices in place to promote inclusion.

Barcel’hona Sports Events from Spain, together with its partners Club for Youth Empowerment 018 (KOM 018) from Serbia, Asociația Ludoku from Romania and Dikaioma Elpidas from Cyprus, want to implement the project “Building Bridges – Basketball for People with Intellectual Disabilities” to promote inclusion in and through sport of some of the most vulnerable groups.

Partners :

1. HOSPIBARNA SPORTS EVENTS SL Spain –  Coordinator

2. ASOCIATIA LUDOKU Romania –  Partner

3.KLUB ZA OSNAZIVANJE MLADIH 018 UDRUZENJE –  Serbia Partner

    Project Goal :

·       Promoting the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities through sport.

    Specific objectives:

    • Developing new tools and methods in basketball for people with disabilities

    • Promoting equal participation in sport

    • Promoting a healthy lifestyle for all

The project is complementary to the call and in line with the objectives of the action, which will be achieved through the implementation of all project activities, more specifically:

•Attracting and expanding access to the programme for newcomers, less
experienced organisations and small-scale actors – this project consortium includes
partners who are newcomers to the Erasmus+ programme.

• Supporting the inclusion of target groups with fewer opportunities – the main target group of this project is people and athletes with intellectual disabilities. In addition, the whole idea of the project is based on exploring and developing new methods and practices to improve the work of basketball clubs and organisations for people with intellectual disabilities and to promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in and through sport.

• Supporting active European citizenship and bringing the European dimension to
the local level – By facilitating partnerships and exchanges between the partners’ local communities and through coordinated activities
in 4 European countries, the project will help to address common challenges, share best practices and develop new tools in the field of inclusive and adaptive sports and, more specifically, in special basketball.

Increasing the quality of work and practices of the organizations and institutions
involved, opening up to new actors who are not naturally included in a given sector – one of the main expected results of the project is the development of the Special Basketball Training Guidelines, this result will not only contribute to improving the quality of work of the partners involved in this project, but also to all other relevant actors who will adopt the developed methodology. In addition, the impact of the project will be visible in different sectors, including in sport and in the civil society sector.

• Strengthening the capacity of organisations to work at transnational and
intersectoral level – partners in this project will all benefit
from experience, but partners without experience will gain important skills and competences
to coordinate and implement project activities at local, national and European level;
in addition, the fact that partners come from local sport
and the civic sector will ensure
the exchange of practices and expertise necessary for successful multi-sectoral cooperation.

• Addressing common needs and priorities in the fields of sport – inclusion in and through sport and the development of new tools to improve the position of people with intellectual disabilities in sport are the main pillars of this proposal and are in line with the main priorities of the Erasmus+ programme and in particular of the sport sector.

• Facilitating transformation and change (at individual, organizational or sectoral level), leading to improvements, proportionate to the context of each organization – another objective closely linked to the development of the training module
as a tool that will benefit all target groups, but most importantly, as a tool that will inspire new and innovative approaches and find solutions to the challenges faced by basketball clubs and players with intellectual disabilities.
